Meet The Author

Don Campbell

Don Campbell, author of the Enchanted Characters and Imagination series, was born in Eastern Kentucky and spent much of his early life in Lexington. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Allied Health and works as an X-ray technician (ARRT), general ultrasound sonographer (ARDMS, AB, OB), and vascular ultrasound sonographer (RVT, VT). He also holds a BA in Business Economics and an MBA in Business Finance from Ottawa University.

For more than fifty years, Campbell has written poetry, creating over 350 poems and songs. The short stories in his series began as bedtime tales for his children during the 1970s through the 1990s, with some pieces dating back to the 1960s. His children later encouraged him to compile these stories into books for their own families, giving rise to the Enchanted Characters and Imagination collection. Campbell lived and worked overseas for over twenty years, including time in the Middle East.

More About The Author

The short stories, poems, and songs in the Enchanted Characters and Imagination series began as bedtime tales shared with his children during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. As his children grew older, they urged him to preserve these stories in written form for their own families, leading to the creation of the full series. For over fifty years, Don Campbell has composed more than 350 poems and songs, many shaped by moments of homesickness while working abroad and by informal music sessions with friends such as Mike “Music Man” Mitchell and Don “Sandman” Leigh. Every piece in the collection remains his original work. Settings drawn from real places appear throughout the books, including the 31-acre forest on the family farm near Lexington, Kentucky, with its horse fields and porch traditions, alongside the open desert landscapes of Arizona that now surround his retirement home.

The series alternates between volumes focused on lyrical poetry and songs such as Volumes 1, 3, 5, and 7 and those centered on short stories, including Volumes 2, 4, and 6. Seasonal titles celebrate occasions like Easter and Christmas Eve with stories of renewal and holiday warmth. Each book presents gentle themes of friendship, kindness, faith, family, and imagination, designed for shared reading among parents, grandparents, and children. Don Campbell hopes these tales continue as part of new family traditions, offering comfort and connection across generations. Future plans include a possible Volume 8 along with an interactive short-story collection.
